Addressing Community Needs Through Strategic Investment
Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex Upgrades – Soccer Stage 2
The Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex Upgrades – Soccer Stage 2 project is a key initiative driven by the City of Moreton Bay to address the growing demand for soccer facilities in the rapidly expanding Burpengary region and surrounding areas. This project demonstrates the power of strategic investment in community infrastructure to enhance health and well-being, boost local economies, and foster social inclusion.
This ambitious project encompasses:
Construction of three (3) new soccer/multi-purpose fields: Equipped with state-of-the-art field lighting and irrigation systems to ensure year-round usability.
Enhanced Infrastructure: Including car parking facilities, new internal access roads, and essential service connections.
Project Scope and Deliverables
Increased Participation: Expanding the availability of high-quality soccer fields will lead to increased participation rates across all age groups, fostering a culture of active engagement in sports and recreation.
Economic Benefits: The project is estimated to generate $16.84 million in economic output, contribute $6.01 million in value-added to the economy, and create 59 local jobs. Furthermore, increased visitation from regional events is projected to boost local businesses.
Social Inclusion: Soccer fields serve as gathering places for individuals from diverse backgrounds, promoting social integration, community cohesion, and a sense of belonging.
Supporting Growth: This investment is crucial, especially considering Burpengary's 3.4% annual growth rate. Without these upgrades, the existing soccer facilities network would face significant strain, limiting participation and hindering active health opportunities.
Supporting Events: The upgraded facility will support local and national events, such as the Australian Indigenous Championships, Sunshine Coast Schools Carnival, and Bill Turner Cup - Qld Finals, which will further grow with the completion of the three soccer fields.
The project is made possible through a collaborative investment partnership between the Federal Government (seeking $3.5 million through the IiOC program) and City of Moreton Bay (committing $3.6 million). This collaborative approach highlights the importance of intergovernmental cooperation in delivering vital community projects.

Outcomes and Community Impact
Addressing Disadvantage
The project is located in Burpengary, where a significant portion of the community is classified within the most disadvantaged quintile. Investment in this sporting facility will play a pivotal role in improving access to health and well-being opportunities for those who need it most.
